Athletic Run Wild IPA Review

The Athletic IPA I would buy when I want more bite, less haze, and a drier finish.

Best way to drink it

I would put Run Wild next to food before judging it on its own. Pizza, burgers, grilled chicken, salty snacks, and weeknight takeout help the bitterness and malt land better than a slow room-temperature sip.

Athletic Run Wild is the Athletic can for people who still want IPA to taste like IPA. It has more snap than Free Wave, less juicy softness, and a finish that works better with food.

I would not call it aggressive. It is still a non-alcoholic IPA, and it is built to be easy to drink. But within Athletic’s lineup, Run Wild is the can I would choose when I want hops and bitterness to matter.

Where to buy

ProofNoMore is the first place I would check if you want to compare Run Wild with Free Wave, Best Day, or other NA IPAs. Amazon can be simpler for packs.

What it tastes like

Run Wild has a firmer IPA profile than Free Wave. Expect more bitterness, more dryness, and less of the pillowy fruit character that hazy IPA drinkers usually want.

That is why it is still a good first Athletic beer for people who miss craft IPA but do not want the softest or sweetest option in the fridge.

When I would buy it

I would buy Run Wild for pizza, burgers, grilled food, tacos, nachos, and nights when a beer needs to cut through salt, fat, or spice. It is also the better Athletic can for someone who says hazy IPAs are too sweet or too soft.

I would not start here for a drinker who wants a light lager, a wheat beer, or a very gentle first NA beer. Upside Dawn, Athletic Lite, Bitburger, Clausthaler, or a German wheat beer may be easier.

Run Wild vs Free Wave

Run Wild is the drier pick. Free Wave is the juicier pick.

If you mostly drank older-school IPAs, Run Wild is more likely to click. If you mostly drank hazy IPAs, Free Wave is probably the better first can. Both are worth trying because they split Athletic’s IPA lineup in a way that is easy to understand once you taste them side by side.

Bottom line

Athletic Run Wild is the Athletic IPA I would buy for bite, dryness, and a more classic IPA finish. If you want soft haze, buy Free Wave. If you want a can that stands up better to food, buy Run Wild.
